Polyethylene Terephthalate, (PET), in its biaxially oriented form, is a fast growth flexible packaging material, which offers strength, tear resistance, high clarity, chemical and heat resistance, including gas barrier properties. It is however, only moderately moisture proof and needs a coated or co-extruded surface layer(s) for heat seal purposes.

Polyester film is widely used as a substrate for metallizing and laminating. It is ideal for lamination with substrates like polyethlene, polypropylene, aluminum foil, etc., or for coating with polyvinyl chloride.

Markets in which it has contributed to growth include dual ovenable and microwaveable container lidding, bag in box applications, MAP (Modified Atmosphere Packaging) for meats, fish and dairy products, and frozen food applications.

Polyester film, has excellent thermal, barrier and mechanical properties for packaging & metallizing. It has high transparency and wide tolerance to temperatures ranging from -70 °C to +200 °C, with good barrier properties for Oxygen, Carbon dioxide, Nitrogen, and excellent resistance to chemicals, moisture, and water vapour. Properties of Polyester film include high tensile strength (high puncture, tear and abrasion resistance) and high impact strength even at low temperatures.

Additionally, Polyester film is non-toxic, odourless and resistant to oils and fats and it meets stringent requirements of FDA and BGA Standard for food packaging.

Major applications for packaging are: Lids, Sweets & Cookies, Sauces & Dressing, Coffee & Yeast, Dehydrate foods Soup mixes and pasta, Pet food.
